The Manifesto of an invisible generation dealing with citizenship rights'

About the Film

Lala, by Ludovica Fales, is the manifesto of an invisible generation whose rights were denied and which is fighting for citizenship rights. The film won the Corso Salani Award at the 35th edition of the Trieste Film Festival, the MyMovies Audience Award at the 41st edition of the Bellaria Film Festival, and a special mention for documentary at the 15th edition of the Ortigia Film Festival.

Lala, Samantha and Zaga are the same age, they share the same desires and dreams. They are three young Italians Italy does not recognize because their parents were born elsewhere.

Their stories take shape, and intertwine in a collective tale of one and many undocumented teenagers, taking us, among the paradoxes of the law, through the investigation plans in which the film unfolds: truth, reality and verisimilitude.

Lala moves between the fragments of her suspended identity. She crosses the story of Samantha, the non-professional interpreter who embodies her, and that of Zaga, the real girl who inspired the film. In a fluid state between staging and reality, Lala embarks on a collective journey in search of the identity of an entire generation with undefined rights.
In a kaleidoscope of intersecting stories, the film becomes the manifesto of a generation, a mosaic of voices of girls and boys who are all “Lala”.

Lala is a Transmedia production (Italy), Staragara (Slovenia), with the contribution of the FVG Audiovisual Fund, MiC – DG Cinema (tax credit), FVG Film Commission, Lazio Region, Slovenian Film Center (Tax rebate), Biennale development College Cinema. The film won the special mention for documentary at the 15th edition of the Ortigia Film Festival.

THE LABORATORIALA

The body as a tool for reflecting on power dynamics

Social Theater Workshop

The Laboratoriala is a social theater workshop designed for non-actors, freely inspired by the Theatre of the Oppressed method.
A safe space, a theatrical game, and an opportunity to strengthen community ties, develop empathy, and practice listening to others.

What is the Laboratoriala?

Without using words, but solely through movement and bodily expressions, participants explore archetypal power dynamics and experiment with real-life situations of oppression, seeking creative collective solutions.
This process helps participants understand how body language can influence and deconstruct entrenched power relations in society, transforming the body into a tool for resistance, empathy, and collective change.

How was the Laboratoriala born?

The Laboratoriala stems from the creative journey of the film “Lala” by Ludovica Fales—a documentary, a fictional film, and a theater workshop spanning five years—that tells the story of a group of young Roma girls and boys and an entire generation fighting for citizenship rights.
The film’s story was developed within a social theater workshop (conceived by Ludovica Fales and inspired by Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed) and includes fragments of the stories of all those who participated.
